1.Food, glorious food…
This is probably the best, most awesome gift you can bring for a new mom when going to meet the baby for the first time. One thing new moms really need is sustenance, especially in the beginning. They may not think to tell you this, or even wanna burden anyone with it, but it can be really challenging to get time to cook and eat in between changing diapers and feeding baby round the clock, and trying to get some sleep in where they can.
I had a pretty traumatic birth, and also didn’t get off to a great start with nursing (combining a little chomper with sensitive nipples is not fun, he destroyed those puppies on the first feeding! and had it not been for an amazing lactation consultant helping me find a position that worked on the last day in hospital I probably would’ve given up all hope of breastfeeding him any further) so in the first few months my hubby and I literally lived on Red Baron pizzas probably 3 out of 7 nights a week, it took 20 minutes in the oven and was pretty tasty, especially with a bit of homemade garlic butter on top, which only takes a few minutes on the stove. Chicken Alfredo was an easy go to as well.
I was fortunate enough to have my mom there for a few weeks in the beginning and, having had ten kids of her own, she knows what a mama needs and she really helped me so much, I’m so grateful that she was able to be there with me for those early weeks, reminding me to sleep and stay hydrated, and she cooked the most delicious homemade meals.
While homemade food is always hugely appreciated don’t worry if you don’t have time to cook something up before you get a visit in, you can always stop past the drive-thru on the way and get their favorite meal from Chick-Fil-a! As a thankful recipient myself, as well as paying it forward when visiting fellow new moms, I’ve found it’s always a winner!
2.Spill proof coffee mug!
This is seriously one of the best discoveries I’ve found! As a mom who now needs her coffee in the morning more than ever, I rarely got to actually finish it without it getting cold or spilled while trying to avoid my child scolding himself and spilling it everywhere before I’d even gotten more than a couple sips in. With this Contigo Autoseal Mug it not only stays warm but you can literally just set it down wherever and not worry about little hands getting into it because they won’t be big enough to squeeze around the cup and press the button that delivers a perfect swig of deliciousness and then closes again as soon as the pressure is released. It’s a little dose of happiness to make the mornings go more smoothly. Definitely a gift that keeps on giving.
3. Cookies and snacks
Another great gift to bring new mamas is a freshly baked batch of cookies. This is one of the most memorable and appreciated gifts that I received from visitors in those first few weeks. A lovely young lady, who I am lucky enough to be related to, brought me a plate of homemade chocolate cookies with caramel in the middle, and they were simply divine! I intended to share them with the hubby but I think I ended up eating the whole lot myself…well he always says he’s sweet enough anyway so he didn’t mind. So if you’re feeling like bringing a bit of sweetness to someone these chocolate caramel delights are pretty amazing…Check out this Yumminess,
4.Rock-a-Bye Renditions of their favorite band.

This is one of the most awesome things that my thoughtful hubby found for me and I cannot count the amount of times I played the Bob Marley album on repeat. What a brilliant idea to turn legend songs into lullabies. It’s a great way to enjoy your favorites without waking the baby. I absolutely love these!!!
They have everything from Michael Jackson, Journey, and The Beatles, to Justin Timberlake, Metallica and Adele…I got slightly obsessed. You can get them either on CD or even on Vinyl (I’ve always had a thing for vinyl ever since I was a kid making them spin while I danced to Bluebird by Paul McCartney and jammed out to Band on the Run)…but these are a little harder to come by then the CDs and I don’t know if they have them for every album, but I did manage to find my friends favorite band Fleetwood Mac on Vinyl and got it for her baby girl, and she loved it! (her daughters name is Violet and the Vinyl actually came in purple which I thought was a nice touch).
5.Stainless Steel Stemless Wine Glasses…and a nice Bottle of Red wine
This one is maybe a little more for mamas with toddlers…because as much as we love them, they can be quite challenging at times…like when they learn they can take off their own diapers and run around the house peeing on everything trying to get you to catch them, finding it the most amusing game on earth…
Or taking it off when they’ve had a good poo and finding a nice clean pillow to sit on (true story)…yeah! that’s their idea of fun!…
Also randomly deciding to take off their jacket when you’ve just managed to get them ready and turn around to gather your things and they throw it in the toilet! and then add some toys or whatever else is handy for good measure…I mean really? What the..? How do they think of these things?!!…
So yeah, a well deserved glass of red wine really helps a mama unwind at the end of the day! And as much as I am a huge fan of proper wine glasses with stems, I actually received these Stainless Steel Stemless Wine Glasses as a Christmas gift and they have become one of my favorite things ever since! Not only do they remove the potential hazard of broken glass and an injured child, but they feel just right cradled in your hand and they hold a good amount of wine too so you can just have “a glass” and sit back and unwind a bit. They somehow make the wine taste better too…maybe that’s just in my head though.
